Authorship and Contributorship
Authorship and Contributorship
Jurnal Teknik is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and integrity in scholarly publishing. Authorship must accurately reflect the intellectual and scientific contributions of individuals involved in research, manuscript preparation, and publication.
The journal follows internationally recognized principles of authorship and contributorship, including recommendations from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
All authors are responsible for ensuring that authorship attribution is accurate, contributions are appropriately acknowledged, and the published work complies with ethical standards.
1. Criteria for Authorship
To qualify as an author of a manuscript submitted to Jurnal Teknik, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:
-
Substantial Contribution: Make significant contributions to the conception or design of the research, acquisition of data, development of research methodologies, or analysis and interpretation of findings.
-
Manuscript Preparation: Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual and scientific content.
-
Final Approval: Review and approve the final version of the manuscript before publication.
-
Accountability: Agree to take responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the work and cooperate in resolving any questions concerning its validity or ethical compliance.
All individuals who meet these criteria must be recognized as authors. Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged appropriately rather than included in the author list.
These requirements apply to research across engineering and technology disciplines, including experimental research, computational studies, software development, engineering design, simulation, and applied technological innovation.
2. Author Contributions Statement
Jurnal Teknik requires all submitted manuscripts to include an Author Contributions statement that clearly identifies the individual contributions of each author.
Authors are encouraged to use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), which recognizes the following 14 contribution categories:
-
Conceptualization: Development of research ideas, objectives, and conceptual frameworks.
-
Methodology: Design and development of research methods, models, or experimental procedures.
-
Software: Development, implementation, programming, or testing of software and algorithms.
-
Validation: Verification of research methods, experimental results, and reproducibility.
-
Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, computational, or analytical techniques.
-
Investigation: Conducting experiments, technical investigations, and data collection.
-
Resources: Provision of research materials, laboratory equipment, datasets, or technical resources.
-
Data Curation: Organization, processing, documentation, and management of research data.
-
Writing – Original Draft: Preparation and writing of the initial manuscript.
-
Writing – Review & Editing: Critical revision, review, and improvement of the manuscript.
-
Visualization: Preparation of figures, technical diagrams, graphs, and visual representations of research findings.
-
Supervision: Scientific oversight, research guidance, and academic supervision.
-
Project Administration: Coordination and management of research activities.
-
Funding Acquisition: Acquisition of financial support for research activities.
An author may perform multiple roles, and a particular role may be shared by several authors. Assignment of a CRediT role does not automatically establish eligibility for authorship.
All authors must review and approve the contribution statement before manuscript submission.
Example of an Author Contributions Statement:
"Conceptualization: A.B. and C.D.; Methodology: A.B.; Software: C.D.; Validation: A.B. and C.D.; Formal Analysis: A.B.; Investigation: C.D.; Data Curation: C.D.; Writing – Original Draft: A.B.; Writing – Review & Editing: A.B. and C.D.; Visualization: C.D.; Supervision: A.B. All authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for their contributions."
The statement must accurately reflect the contributions made. For single-author manuscripts, the sole author must identify the relevant contributions.
3. Authorship Order and Approval
The order of authors must be determined through mutual agreement among all contributors before manuscript submission.
The sequence of authors should reasonably reflect their intellectual and scientific contributions, taking into account accepted practices within the relevant engineering discipline.
All authors must agree to the author list, authorship order, corresponding author designation, and submission of the manuscript to Jurnal Teknik.
Equal contributions may be indicated when appropriate and agreed upon by the relevant authors.
The journal does not determine authorship order or resolve disagreements regarding the relative contributions of individual authors.
4. Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author
The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the author group and the editorial office throughout the submission, peer-review, publication, and post-publication processes.
The corresponding author is responsible for:
-
Ensuring that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
-
Confirming that all authors have reviewed and approved the manuscript before submission.
-
Providing accurate author information, institutional affiliations, and relevant declarations.
-
Ensuring that the Author Contributions statement accurately reflects the work performed.
-
Communicating editorial decisions, reviewer comments, and revision requests to all co-authors.
-
Coordinating manuscript revisions and obtaining approval from all authors for substantive changes.
-
Responding to editorial inquiries and facilitating clarification or correction of the published work when necessary.
The corresponding author must not make authorship-related decisions without the knowledge and agreement of the other authors.
5. Non-Author Contributors and Acknowledgments
Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.
Such contributions may include technical assistance, laboratory support, routine data collection, administrative assistance, language editing, provision of facilities, or general research supervision.
Financial support or institutional position alone does not qualify an individual for authorship.
Authors must obtain permission from individuals named in the Acknowledgments section and accurately describe their contributions.
Funding sources must be disclosed in the appropriate Funding Statement, where applicable.
6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices
Jurnal Teknik prohibits unethical authorship practices, including:
-
Gift or Honorary Authorship: Including individuals as authors based on personal relationships, academic position, seniority, or institutional authority without qualifying contributions.
-
Guest Authorship: Adding individuals primarily to increase the perceived credibility or publication prospects of a manuscript.
-
Ghost Authorship: Excluding individuals who meet authorship criteria or concealing substantive contributions that should be disclosed.
-
Authorship Manipulation: Adding, removing, or rearranging authors for inappropriate academic, institutional, financial, or personal purposes.
-
Authorship Trading: Buying, selling, exchanging, or demanding authorship positions without legitimate scientific contributions.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems and AI-assisted writing tools cannot be recognized as authors because they cannot fulfill the requirements for authorship approval and accountability.
Any substantive use of generative AI must comply with the journal's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.
7. Changes in Authorship
Any changes to the author list after manuscript submission, including the addition or removal of authors, modification of authorship order, or replacement of the corresponding author, must receive editorial approval.
Requests for authorship changes must include:
-
A formal explanation of the proposed changes.
-
The manuscript title and submission identification number.
-
An updated Author Contributions statement, where applicable.
-
Written agreement from all authors, including any individual being added or removed.
The editorial team reserves the right to request additional information before approving such changes.
Authorship changes after manuscript acceptance will be subject to additional scrutiny. Any approved changes after publication will be addressed through an appropriate editorial correction in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
8. Authorship Disputes and Resolution
Authors are expected to resolve disagreements concerning authorship eligibility, author order, and individual contributions before manuscript submission.
If an authorship dispute arises during the editorial process, the journal may request clarification and supporting documentation from the authors.
Unresolved disputes may be referred to the relevant research institutions for investigation and resolution in accordance with COPE guidance.
The editorial team may suspend manuscript processing until the dispute has been adequately resolved.
Jurnal Teknik is committed to handling authorship concerns fairly, objectively, and transparently while maintaining the integrity of the scholarly publication process.
9. Authorship Integrity and Accountability
All authors share responsibility for maintaining the accuracy, originality, transparency, and scientific integrity of their published work.
Each author must be able to identify their contributions and understand the responsibilities of their co-authors.
Authors must cooperate with reasonable requests for research data, methodological clarification, experimental documentation, or other supporting information when questions concerning research integrity arise.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in requests for clarification, manuscript rejection, publication correction, or article retraction, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
Jurnal Teknik reserves the right to update this policy in accordance with developments in scholarly publishing standards and recognized research ethics guidelines.
